You might think that spiders are insects, but they are not! They come under the category of arachnids, and people who have a fear of spiders develop something called “arachnophobia”. It is not that easy to come across those spiders that are considered dangerous to humans.

However, this does not mean that you are entirely safe from them. Spiders such as black widows, brown recluse, etc., can sometimes also be seen inside homes. Colorado Springs has many different species of spiders. The ones that we usually see in our homes are house spiders.

They build their webs in various corners of the house and trap their prey. When some insects step on their web, they get stuck, and that is how house spiders lure their prey. Spiders have a special thing that helps them spin webs. Their webs are made of silk, which they themselves produce. The silk is what makes it sticky.

If you want to keep your home free of spiders, make sure you thoroughly clean the corners and other places on a regular basis. Get started by checking the website and eliminating pests in your home.

What are the common house spiders and their features?

Identifying the species of spider can be a difficult task, as there are many species present in America. Getting bitten by a spider is not common; it is pretty rare. However, they can still bite and leave a welt behind.

You need to know how you can identify various species of spiders by knowing their behavioral patterns and physical features. Let us look at some of the common ones below:

  • Wolf spider

Two hundred species of these spiders alone are present. These spiders have hair on their body, which is why sometimes people mistake them for tarantulas. Furthermore, one exciting thing about them is that they do not make webs. They instead prefer to go after their prey and hunt them down.

You are likely to see these spiders where you would see other insects. You need to check the basement areas, garage, other dark places that look confined, etc. There are many different places where you can spot them, check underneath boards, see debris collected somewhere that needs to be looked into, etc.

They can be half to one inch long. They can be seen in different colors, including black, gray, and brown. Furthermore, they are not really harmful. They instead prefer to hide.

  • American house spider

They have an abdomen that is round in shape. If you look at spider webs, you will find that they are really messy. They prefer hiding in confined spaces and in places where they can get insects easily.

Areas near the windows, garage, cabinets, etc, are possible places where you might find them. Their size is as big as that of a nickel head. They are usually seen in white or gray colors, and some may also have white markings on them.

  • Daddy long legs

Their body is round, and there are long legs that can be seen coming out of their body. The legs are skinny and long. These spiders are usually seen living outside. However, sometimes you can also find them under the deck.

Usually, you will find them strolling on the lawn, or sometimes they can be seen in trees too. Their body size can vary, and can be the size of a pinhead. They are usually brown in color. They are not considered harmful to humans either.

  • Yellow sac spider

They also spin silk, and they make a structure that resembles a tent. They prefer remaining hidden during the daytime, and it is during the night that you will most likely see them. There is also a dark V shape that you can see on their body.

Venomous spiders can pose serious health issues to humans. Thus, it is essential that you get spiders out of your house, regardless of how much harm they can cause. Make sure you have a professional taking care of this for you.
